Day 1 Ayutthaya – Bang Pahan (-/L/D)
We meet at our office at 9.30am. After selecting your bike and helmet, the tour starts with an exploration of the island - the ancient city of Ayutthaya, experiencing the highlights of the historical park. Before heading out we watch an informative overview of Ayutthaya at the multimedia information complex in the exhibition centre at the Old City Hall. We then ride to Wat Putthaisawan, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wat Chai Watthanaram, Phu-Khao Thong stupa – just some of the ancient sights Ayutthaya has to offer. And, I guarantee, you won’t be disappointed so ensure you have your cameras ready. After lunch, it’s back on our bikes as we ride through the back streets taking in the green scenery of the rural heartland of the central plain to explore many local communities and take part of the villagers and their day-to-day activities. We may even see an elephant or a water buffalo. We arrive at our homestay at approximately 4.00pm. (Cycling today: 36kms).
Day 2 Bang Pahan – Lopburi river – Ayutthaya (B/L/-)
We rise early today, 6.00am, to join the local people in a merit-making ceremony by offering food to the Buddhist monks on their morning alms round. After breakfast, explore the local village before kayaking our way back to Ayutthaya on the Lopburi river. Offering you this unique opportunity, you’ll pass by many temples and stupa’s and see just how important the river is to the livelihood of the Ayutthaya people. Be prepared to do lots of waving as the local people welcome you to their city. Kayak at your own pace, enjoying the serenity and peacefulness this part of the journey allows. A highlight on your return will be a visit to the elephant camp of Ayutthaya where you’ll be able to feed and get ‘up close and personal’ to one of nature’s biggest animals. Who knows, you may even see a baby elephant. Time to relax as the remainder of the journey is by converted rice barge as we cruise our way back to Ayutthaya along the river. Have your cameras ready as we pass many historical sites. As we arrive back in Ayutthaya at approximately 4.30pm, we must bid you farewell and hope you have discovered a few secrets of our treasured city. (Kayaking: 3 hours, cruising: 1 hour). |
